Boiler Room crowds are often criticised for their lack of energy and enthusiasm, However, Manchester may well have just made history last night with the liveliest Boiler Room set to date. It was to be expected that the Levelz collective were going to throw a mad one on their home turf, their parties are notorious for it, but last night was on an even bigger level.
The event was located at Islington Mill in Salford, in a 150 capacity space. Speakers were hooked up from all angles of the room and the classic Boiler Room visuals were displayed on the back wall. At around 7pm the room started to pack out, and filming began.
What I like about Levelz is their ability to flow over a multitude of genres, with all of the sets delving in funk, grime, dubstep, rap or jungle, creating something pretty unique.
Metrodome started his set with a solo on a keytar, Biome had T man spitting bars over Kaiju’s ‘Creeper’ and Chimpo finished off his heavyweight set with Dismantles ‘my thing (sex machine)’. It can’t be a Levelz party without Chimpo & Black Josh crowd surfing too, something you don’t often see on a Boiler Room.
From fancy dress, to inflatable machine guns and huge playing cards being waved about, Levelz really put on a show. The night was full of energy and the vibes were huge, Manchester has once again proved itself to be at the forefront of music culture.
