FROM THE FALLOW

Students guide to Manchester music and nightlife. Where to go and who to know!

14th March : Band on the Wall : 19:30 – 23:00

Featuring a host of Manchester’s finest upcoming talent, this Band on the Wall event could prove to be the North Wests’ next ‘I swear I was there’ gig. Launching a fresh new collective called ‘Cul de Sac’ (consisting of LayFullstop, Truce, Bxrry and Kid Katharsis) accompanied by hip-hop trio Free Wize Men, dancehall legends Red Eye HiFi, MC Sangy and the soulful Family Ranks; this event is sure to be 100% smooth Manchester vibes in an intimate setting.

LayFullstop

LayFullstop of Roots Raddix and the collective Cul de Sac is fast becoming the no.1 soulstress goddess of the North West. Manchester’s very own Lauryn Hill, 2016 is sure to be a big year for Lay who blends breezy, spine shivering vocals with a sharply Northern hip-hop style.

15th March : Factory 21:00

In no real need of an introduction, Tuesday night at Factory is set to go off as names from all over Manchester and the UK are performing and all for a good cause. After the (on the surface) animosity of culture clash, the yearly 8 Gold Rings event is sure to be a mighty celebration of the Manchester music scene and you do not want to miss out.

Salford John

Iconised by the Dub Phizix anthem, John Millet (known as Salford John) died after being attacked on the 24th January 2014. It is important to pay respects to someone who was most definitely a legend of Manchester and you can read his story here. With all artists playing for free, proceeds from Tuesday night are paying for a plane ticket for John’s daughter to go to Australia to visit her Nan and Aunties with the rest going to Salford Royal Infirmary. RIP Salford John

16th March : The Ruby Lounge : 21:00

Again with all proceeds from the night going to charity (http://www.progressio.org.uk/), the Wednesday night Rubicon Launch Party is sure to be a stomping night of North West bass. Featuring dub/dancehall pioneers Red Eye HiFi along with a variety of Manchester Drum&Bass stars, Ruby Lounge is sure to be a quality rave for a good cause.

Free Wize Men

Manchester hip-hop squad the Free Wize Men are set to host the night along with MC Sangy and the trio are currently riding a wave of fire North West boom bap vibes. Consisting of Afro Sam, Kay Bey and Blind MIC; the trio come like a Mancunian Jurassic 5, spitting in perfect sync with great energy.

19th March : Gorilla : 23:00

Featuring some of the finest hip hop artists from around the UK, the High Focus night at Gorilla is not one to miss. With Ocean Wisdom, The Four Owls and Manchester’s’ own Black Josh and Sleazy F Baby performing, expect a masterclass in British rapping.

Black Josh and Sleazy F Baby

Two brothers from the M14 zone, Black Josh and Sleazy F Blah are stars of the Manchester music scene. Both members of Blah records, the pair look set to take over the UK in the next year with their hypnotising flow, first-rate lyricism and straight out mad live performances.
