Last Thursday marked the debut of our new night 'Bloc2Bloc Presents: Cookies and Bass' in which we host an all-female line-up and invite a special guest to play alongside the Gyaldem.
In a scene where females can be few and far between, we decided to switch it up a little and shine the light on the women of Manchester. Unlike some 'ladies nights' it's not a case of novelty or women needing a special treatment in order to make their mark, but rather a platform for fresh, talented DJs (who happen to be ladies) to impress, network and make some movements. It's all peace, love, equality and proper good music.
Thursday was all that and more with early vibes set from myself *toots horn* playing tracks from old skool Outkast to Manchester's Inka, followed by an excellent techno/bass b2b from Bloc2Bloc Radio regular Chachii and Faora (SIREN) who popped up from that there London to drop some heavy, dark tracks.
Next up was TAMASiNE aka Angie Steppah joined by Deepo on the mic, continuing the high energy with some massive electronic tracks. Special guest Metrodome (LEVELZ) followed with a diverse set playing dark garage, Alexander O'Neal and even a bit of Seal. To finish the night was DJ Pesha who pushed the tempo and kept the party moving till the lights were on with a sick D&B set.
A massive thanks to those who came down and partied to at The Live Room, keep your eyes and ears open for the next event!
