From The Fallow: Parklife Preview: The Manchester acts to know

With the exam season in full flow, Parklife is a certified light at the end of the tunnel for the struggling students of the North West. With weekend and Saturday tickets already sold out, the 11th and 12th of June are set to go off as 70,000 revellers descend upon Heaton Park.

Always providing a decent line up, this year the festival is also showcasing some of the city’s best home-grown talent. What follows are 4 acts from the 0161 that are set to shell it down in true Manchester style.

DUB PHIZIX & STRATEGY – Sunday: The Temple Stage

With a BBC Radio 1 Residency, it’s fair to say that the Salford duo have officially made it national but listen to the pair opining about bass or crisps and there’s no doubts their roots remain fully in Manchester. Combing Phizix’s soul shaking beats with Strategy’s bullet fast rapping, the two are Northern kings of UK Bass and not an act to miss.

BUGZY MALONE – Saturday: MTA Stage

The man whose put Manny firmly on the map, Bugzy Malone is one of the superstars of the grime revival. With a top 10 album under his belt, acclaimed fire in the booths and the best grime beef of the decade; the Manchester MC needs no introduction. Catching him perform in his hometown whilst he’s well on his way to takeover nationally is a definite must.

MADAM X – Saturday: BBC 1xtra Stage

Not strictly Mancunian born and raised, it was as a student in the North West however that Madam X honed her skills with Murkage and Big People Music to become one of the city’s premier bass DJ’s. With her own label Kaizen and a fire NTS show, she’s well worth her spot as one of Sian Anderson’s 7 women pushing grime forward. Having performed all over the globe in 2016 including India and Cuba, her Parklife set is sure to be a grimy Manchester classic.

LEVELZ – Saturday: BBC 1xtra Stage

Manchester’s very own 14 strong supergroup are an intoxicating adrenaline shot of pure 0161 genre bending madness. Recently crowned Culture Clash kings, the entourage have taken Manchester by storm in 2016 with their LVL11 mixtape and incredible live performances. A who’s who of the city’s music scene, their boiler-room escapades should give you a glimpse at the organised chaos they’ve perfected and just how how the 1xtra stage is set go off.
