The Rick Sanchez of rap returns with his best creation yet. Produced by fellow Bluntskin member Pro P, 'Diá Des Muertos' (the spanish for Day of the Dead) fittingly dropped on Halloween followed by the below video for the neck-breaking single 'S'wordplay' demonstrating Cheech's heavy wordplay skills.
The rest of the album follows suit with a eclectic selection of beats consistently laced with ease and covering a wide range of content from economic politics in 'Love Money', featuring soul man Martin Connor, to everyday struggles, smoking sessions and essentially letting other rappers know what the score is. Tracks like 'Very Wild' and 'Still All Mothership' put Cheech firmly back at the forefront of UK Hip Hop as a solo artist after recent collaborations and a release from The Bluntskins earlier this year. Other features include El Ay on the impressive and personal favourite 'Fire' and Cheech's other crew Mothership Connection on the menacing 'HBG', one for the true Hip Hop heads.
'part Mothership, part Bluntskin that's a fuckin' abundance of intergalactic skunk lit'
Pro P's production proves varied and distinctive drawing influence and samples from smokey jazz horns to eastern sitars and elegant keys with each track sounding full yet raw with weighty drums giving that head noddin' effect. This combined with Cheech's adaptive flow and strong hooks make the 'Diá Des Muertos' album one to cop and arguably their best collaboration yet.
